Why does Amir go to Pakistan? Go beyond the obvious.

Kaitlyn Betz: Amir goes to Pakistan obviously because of Rahim Kahn. However I there is defintely more to it than just Rahim Kahn saying, "There is a way to be good again." Amir is going to Pakistan because he misses Hassan and feels guilty about what he did. Amir is going to Pakistan because he is curious about what happened to Hassan (pg 171), "...I remember wondering if Hassan too had married. And if so, whose face he had seen in the mirror under the veil?" Also, Amir finally wants to release himself from the regret of being the only one who knew what he did to Hassan. (pg 165)"I envied her. Her secret was out. Spoken Dealt with," Amir wants someone else to finally know and understand.
Carole Surfus... I agree with Kaitlyn about Amir's motives for going to Pakistan. I also agree that he is probably curious about what has happened to Hassan and that he wants to maybe redeem himself a little. Very nice paragraphy Kaitlyn!
Amir decides to go back to Pakistan because of Rahim Khan. If Rahim had never called saying "There is a way to be good again", then Amir wouldn't have gone. Amir thinks that by going to Pakistan, he can erase the past and find forgiveness. However, that may not be the case. Until he can tell the people who are close to him of what happened that fateful day, and until he receives forgiveness from both Hassan and himself. Then he will never be free from the guilt.
To Kaitlyn:
I didn't think of it that way. I'm sure Amir does miss Hassan immensely. Who wouldn't? Leaving your best friend, even if your friendship had faltered, is tough. You'll always want to know what happened to them and you'll always wish to be able to see them again. Going along with that, after you've been away from a friend, especially one with whom you were as close as Amir and Hassan, you'll think of all the horrible things you did to each other (or in this case, what Amir had done, or not done, to or for Hassan), and would want to apologize and be forgiven.
Carole Surfus... The more i think about it, the more i think that maybe Amir is just curious as to what it's like in Pakistan today. Maybe he wants to see what has become of his home and his homeland. way to go tiffany. way to forget :D
Well with all that's been going on, Hassan and Ali may have escaped to Pakistan, which is why I had been referring to Hassan as if he were in Pakistan. While reading about Amir going to Pakistan and about what's been going on in Afghanistan, not to mention the mysterious phone call from Rahim Khan, I started to wonder if maybe Hassan and Ali escaped to Pakistan and found Rahim Khan, and then Rahim Khan called Amir to come back for Hassan. But then, we don't know if Hassan is in Pakistan or still in Afghanistan. Either way, I think Amir is going to find him, whether by accident, or by searching for him.
Amir goes to Pakistan because Rahim Kahn, the only grown-up who ever understood him as a child, has a "way to be good again." Throughout all these years what happened that night in the alley has remained and haunted Amir. He has done everything he could to run away from his past, he moved and adjusted to live in America, went to school, got a job, married. But he can't seem to forget the guilt that he carries. He is now desperate and is willing to do what ever it takes to mend this. And when given a chance to do this, he finally takes it..

First, he's going to Pakistan, not Afghanistan yet, right?
And...can you ever be free of guilt?
